The family business in Aschaffenburg.
Kolb & Baumann was founded 70 years ago by August Baumann and Adolf Kolb. From the beginning, the production of gauge blocks was the main task. At first this was done by hand, later lapping machines were purchased or built by the company. In addition, the development of gauge block accessories began, in the course of which, for example, the KOBA gauge block holder was patented. 1962 Dipl.-Ing. Adolf Baumann joined the company. Thanks to his intensive commitment, KOBA became a globally active company that is recognized in the industry.
In 1979, Kolb & Baumann becomes the 8th calibration laboratory in Germany to be accredited by the Physikalisch Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB). Today, the accreditation for the measurand “length” includes gauge blocks up to 1,000 mm nominal dimension, measuring equipment, gauges and plane glass plates.
In 1985, the development and manufacture of calibration standards for coordinate measuring technology was established as a further field of activity. KOBA is the only manufacturer worldwide to offer one-, two- and three-dimensional test pieces for tactile coordinate measuring machines. The latest member of this product group is the optical calibration standard “KOBA-optima” for checking and traceability of photogrammetry and theodolite measuring systems. KOBA distributes worldwide to more than 70 countries and is supplier for gauge blocks and calibration standards to numerous state institutes.
At the Aschaffenburg site, KOBA currently employs about 35 people, most of whom work in production. KOBA is an independent family-owned company. The continuation as a medium-sized family business is guaranteed by the entry of Dipl.-Bw. (BA) Alexander Baumann-Rassokhatzkyi joining the management: “We will continue to do everything in our power to supply our customers with high quality German products at all times. This tradition is our obligation for the future.”
